(o) Do you speak English?

台灣人用英文問他人「你會說英文嗎？」時，經常用 “can" 這個助動詞。雖然文法沒有錯，但會給人一種「質疑對方能力」的感覺，聽起來不太禮貌。因此，下次遇到外國人，記得 “Do you speak English/Chinese?" 才是比較正確又禮貌的用法喔！

(o) There is a dog.

在中翻英時，「有」會讓人直接聯想到 “have" 這個單字。不過在英文裡面 There have/has 是不合文法的， There is/are 才是表達有的概念。雖然是很簡單的文法，但還是台灣人很常見的錯誤。可以參考下面的句子：

There are a lot of stars in the sky.

天空中有很多星星。

Is there any possibility that Rebecca isn’t telling the truth?

有沒有可能 Rebecca 其實在說謊？

(x) Please close the light.

(o) Please turn off the light.

關燈、開冷氣、關電視這些動作在翻成英文時，很容易直覺反應使用 open/close 這兩個動詞，但在英文文法裡，這只能用在關門、開窗。若是透過「按鍵」來完成，則要用 turn on/ turn off。

May I turn on the air conditioner? It’s too hot to sleep.

我可以開冷氣嗎？太熱了我睡不著。

You had better turn off the TV, or Mom will get mad when she comes back.

你最好把電視關掉，不然媽媽回來就要生氣了。

Open the door, please.

請開門。

(o) No problem. / Not at all. / My pleasure. / Sure.

別人跟我們說謝謝時，我們時常會回 You’re welcome. 。這說法沒有錯，不過這是比較正式、禮貌的用法。其實日常生活對話時，還有很多種自然的回法，像是 No problem. 都會是比較親切的用詞。

(o) I like it very much. / Thank you very much.

very 是台灣人常常用錯的副詞，在直翻的情況下常常用錯。very 只能放在形容詞或副詞前面，若要修飾動詞，要放在動詞後面才對喔！

(o) Although she is pretty, she is not friendly.

(o) She is pretty, but she is not friendly.

中文語法裡都會說「雖然……但是……」，但在英文文法裡，「雖然」和「但是」兩個字是不能並存的，Although / Even though / despite the fact that 跟 but 在句子裡的關係是一山不容二虎，就跟 because 和 so 一樣，有你就沒有我，大家就別再寫錯啦！

(o) I am interested in dancing.

「我對…有興趣」常常會被翻成 have interest in 。其實文法並沒有錯，但這通常是用來禮貌地表達對某件事情表達關切。如果是自我介紹時要告訴他人自己的興趣的話，要用 be interested in 才是正確的用法！
