Graphene Oxide - Intriguing Material

How to make graphene?

graphite is strongly layered → sliced

single layer graphite → graphene

graphene oxide → graphene layer

few layer graphene oxide (FL-GO) platelets (flakes) is oxidized graphene platelets.

stability, solution, 2 ~ 3 layers.
below 10 layers still is graphene or graphene oxide.

stack structure is one by one. stack structure with height below 10 monolayers.

0.6 ~ 0.9 nm, distance between particular layers of graphite oxide.


stable aqueous

mechanical cleaving
carbon nanotubes unzipping
graphite intercalation and exfoliation without its oxidizing

intercalation, oxidizing and exfoliation of graphite, then graphene oxide (GO) reducing.

Hummers method:
graphite powder (black powder) + H2SO4 (~96%) + NaNO3 + KMnO4 + H2O2 → GO (brown color)

Raman:
high G, low D
D/G ratio < 1
